The first appointment will be an assessment appointment to help your psychologist understand your current challenges, general functioning, history, strengths, and goals. This will allow your psychologist to make recommendations to help improve your quality of life and reach your goals.
Currently the first assessment appointment can be booked for 50 minutes or 75 minutes. If you've been experiencing difficulties for a long time, or have a lot of information you'd like your psychologist to know, it is recommended that you book a 75 minute appointment*.
At the end of the assessment, your psychologist will walk you through recommendations according to the assessment result.
The recommendations can be either to start subsequent appointments with our psychologist or a referral to an appropriate external service, depending on the outcome of the assessment.
*If the necessary information cannot be covered in a 50 minute appointment, your psychologist may recommend a second assessment appointment to ensure a thorough assessment.
After the initial assessment appointment, your psychologist will discuss the recommended frequency of appointments according to the assessment outcome, and will ask for your input on what would be realistic for you to attend.
In the subsequent appointments, you'll actively work with your psychologist to increase your quality of life and move towards your goals.
There may also be recommendations of maintenance appointments every few months to help keep you on track with your goals.
This will be the initial appointment booked with your psychologist. If you're not sure about which length you should book, get in touch and we can discuss which option may be more suitable for you.
The recommended subsequent appointment type will be discussed with your psychologist after the assessment appointment.
